He was formerly Head of Government Relations for the Corporate and Investment Banking Divisions of Barclays. During his time with Barclays there was a significant growth in the business where he helped navigate both a changing political and regulatory environment and a number of entry and exits into markets around the world. He advised on a range of sensitive and politically challenging transactions across the globe and managed the policy and advocacy response to the global financial crisis at G20, EU, Asia and US levels.
He initially joined Barclays Capital in May 2008 to set up a Government Relations function within the broader Corporate Affairs team, becoming a key advisor to the global senior leadership team on political and corporate positioning and issues management.
Prior to joining Barclays Mitchell was at Merrill Lynch Europe where he spearheaded the growth of the EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa) Government Relations team and advised both the office of the CEO and the regional management team.
Mitchell started his career as a foreign policy advisor for a leading member of the House of Lords where he worked closely with the Government on a number of areas including Holocaust restitution and the Middle East Peace Process. He maintains a close interest in International Relations.
